Overview

At Waikerie Lutheran Primary School the teaching and learning program is based on the unique blending and strengthening of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), Lutheran Schools Association of South Australia and ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority), the required curriculum for South Australian Schools.

The IB PYP is an integrated, transdisciplinary curriculum where students develop understandings, knowledge and skills through inquiry. Students are provided with an exciting, challenging and engaging program of learning. The Units of Inquiry are developed around a central idea, whilst the inquiry is structured around a set of key questions using active child-centred guided inquiry. Each inquiry aims to develop the whole child, academically, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, to become internationally minded and global citizens.

The PYP offers a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning. It provides a complete curriculum model which incorporates guidelines on what students should learn, as well as guidelines on teaching and assessment strategies. This model is represented through the three interrelated questions shown in this diagram:
